What a difference 17 pounds make! I have these huge goals and in my head, I thought that I needed to lose 40 or more pounds before I saw a difference, but I was wrong! Of course, you don’t see it at first, but then when you see photos – WOW what a difference 17 pounds make! The photo below was snapped at a birthday party a few short months ago. This was after I had been working out since October 2012! It really is true that you can’t out run a bad diet!
17 pounds! That’s how much I’ve lost since starting the Woman’s Day Magazine Live Stronger Challenge. I would love to tell you that I’ve unlocked some secret or magic, but I haven’t. The secret is what we all know, calories in have to be less than calories out. I will tell you that the 3 MAJOR changes I’ve made.
1. Breakfast! You have to eat it, no getting around it and it should be actual food. Before, I would have a Venti Starbucks Mocha and a muffin, coffee cake or granola bar. When I started adding my calories into the My Fitness Pal app, my “breakfast” totaled 800 calories, with no real nutrition – YIKES! Now, I have coffee (with flavored creamers) or green tea. I eat egg whites, turkey bacon, cereal…etc. Woman’s Day posted an article of what all of us on the challenge are having for breakfast, so if you need some ideas, check out the article: http://www.womansday.com/health-fitness/conditions-diseases/what-to-eat-for-breakfast#slide-6
2. No starch at dinner: No pasta, bread, potatoes, white rice..etc. If I want bread or pasta, I have it at lunch time.
3. Start with a vegetable: At lunch and dinner, I always start with a vegetable: small salad, green beans, cut up peppers..etc.
I still have big goals, but I’m finding that setting smaller goals is just as important as the main goal. There have been disappointments when the scale didn’t move like I thought it should. Instead of obsessing about the scale, I try on clothes that used to be tight, that are lose now and measuring the inches is a true sign progress, no matter how slow. No, I don’t have a cheat day. I know that works for some people, but I’ve been cheating for 8 years, so I’m good on the cheat days!
